Buenas Aguas

I think I will not maintain the rhythm of the postings from Brazil in Buenos Aires. I have fallen into a kind of slow state. Well, it’s not that I am not doing anything, but it’s just the normal stuff.

I’m most proud that I am going to the gym every day. Swimming. Not much, only some 20 lanes, but it’s nice. Every day. Sue, Inga, M? What about that?? So maybe for me Buenos Aires is better named Buenas Aguas for me.

Other than that, walking around, sorting files and pictures on my computer, and meeting friends for coffee or a beer. All nothing special, nothing to report about.

But it actually does say a lot: I do feel at home in Buenos Aires. Immediately. Ok, it had a head start, I know it a bit. It feels so familiar. Recoleta is the best part, rich, old ladies with their doggies around, lots of little shops, it’s safe even at night…

Feels like Paris, just further south. The architecture is mix of old early 20th century town houses and modern buildings, streets are lined with trees, it’s clean…. I haven’t even taken many pictures, except a couple of iPhone pics of street art. Will have to do that to show you what this are looks like.

The big Recoleta cemetery is close by, with the rather unimpressive Duarte family grave that attracts all the Evita worshippers. Unimpressive in comparison to the massive tombs that stand around it, greek temples, ornate with Jesus, Mary, the angels and any other saint you can think of…

Around it are a number of small bars, good to drink a cerveza or eat emapanadas, as I did with Javo yesterday. These are really great, you can have them in a number of fillings, I had queso y cebolla, humita (a sort of corn mix filling) and verduras.

My Spanish is also improving, thanks to little conversation here and there.
