Merry Christmas from Santiago

My last day in Santiago was Navidad. The city was much more quiet – a lot of coffee shops and restaurants already closed during the day.

Yesterday I did some last minutes Xmas shopping with Sebastian, he took me to an area full of old warehouses or markets, with little stalls where people were looking for regalos… But even there a number of shops were closed.

Feliz NavidadI packed my stuff. You should think it’s pretty easy by now as I only have X things that were in the bag and will go in again… but I have to carefully balance the weight between the big and small bag. And an extra wine bottle just has to fit in!

After that, lunch and beers at La Jardin with Hannah, a bit of time at the pool, then a walk through Lastarria, but the restaurants and Cafés were already closing. So I sat a bit in the sun in Parque Forestal and enjoyed the view, and the setting sun.

I ate at home – I still had some rice left, otherwise I would have starved. Everything was closed. I guess as normally I am at home during this time of day I never realized how deserted our cities get. Maybe in European winter it is also less obvious, but here it is summer and you expect the city to be in full swing.

I had wanted to go out for a drink with friends after all were done with their families, but it really got too late… I was tired, and had to wake up early for the check-out. Apparently the night of Christmas is a big party, once the bars all open again. So I slept, and I’m somewhat fit for the last half day in Santiago de Chile.

Feliz Navidad.
