Tokyo is perfect to just stroll and discover. When I wanted to visit the Museum of Western Art in Uemo Park, I ended up spending hours in Ameyoko Market.
It’s full name is ameyayokocho, which means “candy shop alley”. However, today it is simply called ameyoko (アメ横). And it sells so much more than candy.
Nestled under and around the Yamanote train line tracks, some 200 little shops sell everything and anything, from groceries, fish, beauty products, bags, sweets, records, books…
There’s also a great number of tiny restaurants, fast food and, above all, ramen places.
I ended up buying another bag. #3 on this trip. I admit, I have a bag problem.
However, my light-weight tiny foldable plastic rucksack is already falling apart. I could patch it up and sew the holes, but it also loses its protective inner layer… So I bought this cool, spacious grey and blue rucksack.
I also sat down for some yummy, mouth-burning hot ramen in one of these tiny places, no tourists, only old Japanese men and women, taking a break from their grocery shopping.
No english menu. However, they understood and brought me some great veggie ramen. I could eat this all day.
