Alicia

After another day at the beach (I’m basically trying to bring my spending down – the beach is the cheapest option) I met up with my friend Alicia from Brussels.

She is in town for two days for a conference for work. She’s one of those friends that I simply didn’t get to see enough when I was living in Brussels. With me constantly traveling, and her job and her family with two little kids, we only ever met like once or twice a year, mostly through other friends parties. Not enough.

Each time, it was a great time, so I was delighted when I saw a message from her pop up in my Facebook that she’d be in Israel for a few days.

We went to the new harbor of Tel Aviv, or well, the old harbor turned into a modern shopping, dining and lounge-ing district, north of the center.

Sitting on the long wooden promenade, we had a salad, then moved over to cocktails, then wine, and finally a beer…

After five hours of catching up, at 1 am, all bars were closing, and we had to stand on the pier, watching out onto the night over the Mediterranean.

She recently changed jobs, which I had missed out on, and it was interesting to hear about what happened back in Brussels. It’s great to have people come and visit me, even though Tel Aviv has been so popular that I even had to refuse some friends, as I was over-booked…

It’s like a link back into my previous life, and my possible and probable future one. We forgot to take the obligatory selfie that I like to post here, though.

We drank so much, and I had little cash with me and – poor world traveler – recently maxed out my credit card… Poor Alicia. I owe her a big dinner when I’m back in Brussels!

Tomorrow late afternoon, Sven from Brussels will hit town.
