As time goes by…

Sabine and I strolled into a most interesting art exhibition today, more or less by accident, looking for another gallery.

We saw Christian Marclay’s The Clock today.

He made a 24-hour-movie, assembled by countless snippets of other movies, in which a scene indicates a certain time, shows a clock, wristwatch…

The movie is shown around the clock and synchronized with the local time, so that you can watch your time going by.

The funny thing is that even though none of the scenes are related, and some are really short, it all makes an interesting mix and story. We stayed for about 20 minutes, but I could have watched it even longer.

I surely will come back, as the gallery is open 24 hours. It must be most interesting to see the snippets he used for the night time…

360 staircaseThis day had a different rhythm, in total… we slept in, went for breakfast at a nice hotel nearby, then strolled around the area till Sabine had her hamam appointment.

While she was soaking and being soaped up, I sat at Mums Café and did a bit of research and planning for the trip – a few things have to be booked and organized…

360 staircaseLater we walked up the hill again to see the exhibitions, we did find the building we were looking for in the end, and had a look at various galleries on different floors.

However, I think the most interesting was actually the beautiful staircase in this huge house.

Outside, we saw a lot of people gathering and sitting on the floor, distributing flyers. It looked like a commemoration of the miners who were killed in the accident yesterday, but we also saw a lot of police.

Being aware of the recurring demonstrations, and the police violence, especially around Taksim, we changed plans and try to circumvent the whole area, only running into more and more police.

You never know how these things turn out, and we surely did not want to get caught up in a riot.

So we went downhill and back to our more quiet neighborhood… and indeed, we saw reports that police used tear gas and water canons to dissolve protesters, right in Istiklali Street, the main shopping area.

With all the police around, the protests against the government, the internet censorship that is present… it all feels like there’s something in the air.
