Blues night

My sister Anke has a bar in a little village in Switzerland, on the other side of Lake Constance, just about half an hour’s drive from my parents. I visited her of course on my quick stop, and also got a special treat: I was finally there for a concert they had on that night.

They opened the bar, called ‘Bäckerstübli‘ as it was once a bakery, in 2001, and have since then turned it into a venue for small-scale Blues concerts. For years now, she has one or two concerts nights month, and it started to become known as a cool concert venue.

Last year, they had a spontaneous call from a Dutch band who was passing through and within two days they organized and staged an impromptu concert.

On top, my sister, who is a chef originally, as a changing menu of fresh local produce and snacks, and many people come in for their dinner.

So, this time, they had a special one-man-does-all Blues band: Ben Prestage from Mississippi, who played guitar, bass, the drums and the harmonica, sometimes all in one.

He learned to play instruments form a neighbor, was street artist in New Orleans and is now touring Europe, notably with his diddley bow.

He played for about four hours that night, setting the place on fire, and we had a great time, getting drunk on strawberry punch.
