Night out

Last night I met up with Hannah and her friends for some drinks in a cute bar and restaurant Ciudadano in Barrio Italia. We had beers and ate something, the night was really mild…

Santiago is hot during the day, but the nights can see temperatures drop quite sharply. It’s always good to have something light but long-sleeved with you…

On the way back we ran into these two brothers from Argentina.

They were just closing their shop called Hasta que te encontré (Until I found you). We had a look inside the entry and couldn’t believe what we saw. Tons of old stuff, telephones, TVs, children’s toys… you name it.

They let us inside and explained: they are renting out all these props to TV and movie productions.

You need a phone from the 1930s? They got it. Need a TV in the design of the 1950s? Here you go. The producers come to their place with a wish list and they assemble it all… We had a blast.

After a quick stop in a night shop for a Pisco, we headed to Hannah’s and had a couple of wines and PisCola. I met some of her friends, most of them teaching English in Santiago, like her.

Hannah is such a fun gal. From Berkeley, we connected immediately over our love for the Bay. She has also been traveling through South America after her graduation, but after a couple of months decided to stay in Santiago and work as an English teacher… Now she has a Chilean boyfriend and hasn’t left… I found out she went to Burning man twice already, which is on my list for summer next year…

Later that night, I met up with Sebastian again who promised me to get me into a club, finally… So we went to Bunker, the typical club, mostly visited by tourists though, right in Bellavista.

The music was a bit too much bum-bum for me, but they had an amazing drag show with the latest trashy impersonations of Madonna gone wild, Lady Gaga’s need for Applause, or Cher’s World….

We emptied a bottle of champaign.

Welcome to the dawn….
