Sky high

Another trip up into the skies, this time on top of the Tokyo Sky Tree. Openend in 2012, it is the second tallest structure in the world, after the Burj Khalifa, coming in at 634 meters.

It became necessary, as the Tokyo Tower, surrounded by numerous high buildings, could no longer transmit a full terrestrial TV coverage.

I went with Brandon and his friends, which shortened the waiting time considerably. It was Monday morning, but the queue was enormous and we had to wait about an hour to buy the tickets.

It has an interesting structure, starting as a triangle at the base, to becomes round at the top. The lift goes up there with a speed of 600m/min.

The view up on the first platform, at 350 meters, is spectacular, but even more so on the second platform, at 450 meters.

You can see that the city simply has no end, it just loses itself in the distance and the mist.

Fuji-san, unfortunately, again made no appearance…. we could just vaguely guess the outline of the volcano.

I’m seriously tempted to go up there again at night, it must be even more amazing than from the Tokyo Tower.
