I arrived in Adelaide… in the early morning, in a grey, not too cold but rainy weather.
My hotel was not too far from the train station, so I rolled over my one single suitcase in 20 minutes and checked into my room, that, luckily, at 8 am, was ready.
I wasn’t too thrilled, the area looked a bit industrial… Post office, closed bar, parking lot…. but it turned out I am only a few blocks from the cool bars…
Adelaide has a totally planned pattern. It’s a huge cube, on a North/South axis, surrounded by a huge park. I am pretty much at 9 o’clock.
In the picture below, considering the angel and perspective, you’d find me at 3.30, on the right.
There won’t be many fancy pictures of the city. First of all, my beloved Nikon is in a long needed cleaning process.
I was tired to always correct the same black dots on every single picture, so I splashed out 70 bucks for a sensor cleaning. After Burning Man, I should have had it cleaned right away.
Then, I have to say, the city isn’t that photogenic.
Some nice, colonial buildings, churches, colonial brick buildings. And a number of the typical 70s and 80s semi-high risers and malls, the soulless architecture you find in pretty much every war-destroyed German city.
What’s your excuse, Adelaide? It’s a bit of a wild mix of styles and buildings…. not really a harmonious ensemble.
Still, it’s a cool place. There’s a huge number of restaurants and bars, Chinese take out’s, little shops….
I slept into the first day till afternoon. I needed to recuperate from the train ride.
Then I went to see the Hobbit, part III, the pretty senseless story, but hey, they made me watch all five other movies, how could I not…? And it was grey and rainy. So what…?
But fact is, even after just having seen Hobbit 2 three weeks ago on TV, I could not really follow the story anymore, and it has become totally random.
Whatever. It’s over. Until they come up with a sequel, wanna bet? After all, even Gone with the wind had its sequel…
Today, I walked through the city again – blogging a bit, writing some mails, booking my last place in Santiago, then strolling through stores and malls… a book store, a map store, had dumplings and coffee…
Now I’m drinking myself through a wine list of South Australia.
Forgive my babbling 😉
