Of course we had to explore the Bauhaus architecture in Tel Aviv. After all, the city is famous for it.
I had already done the audio tour prepared by the Bauhaus Center Tel Aviv two years ago, so this time we just bought a map and explored it a bit on our own.
I love the architecture. Ok, honestly, it’s one of the few styes I actually might be able to recognize, apart from Art Nouveau buildings in Brussels, so don’t expect to much from me.
But if I would build a house today, I’d love to be inspired by Bauhaus, the shapes and styles, the whole simplicity. I especially love those houses in Tel Aviv with their round shapes and balconies.
We walked around the Dizengoff area, where whole blocks of houses are protected, and then over to Rothschild Boulevard.
Over 4000 buildings still exist in Tel Aviv, around 1000 are protected… many have fallen in disrepair, been neglected or altered, for convenience. Still, it’s a great stroll though town, and especially along Rothschild, with its tree lined pedestrian walkway in its middle.
Of course all the walking made us hungry, and there’s no better way to discover new restaurants, bars and shops. Who can resist…?
After that, another afternoon at the beach, this time enjoying some enormous waves rolling in, so powerful we could hardly remain standing and body parts were exposed left and right…
