The Jazz festival really brings far more musical styles into Montreal than just Jazz.
Monday night, after a sleepy day in the park and a stop in a bar to watch the German team playing Algeria in the World cup, I went downtown to meet Joel and Greg to watch a couple of the free shows on the main stages outdoors…
Towards midnight, we went to Savoy du Métropolis, a smaller venue on Ste. Catherine East, for an electro-band I had never heard of.
I was tired and basically ready to walk home, but, ok, I was there already, it was free, couldn’t hurt to listen to them at least for a bit.
The duo was called Beat Market. Two guys who looked like a futuristic mixture of a Klingon, a Borg, and Austrian Alpinist Reinhold Messmer in their outfits. With a set of drums and synths, and a futuristic light show, they set the place on fire….
They are a local band from Montréal, and seem to have already a big following of young people. Their music was catchy, melodious electro-pop, and the guys visibly had fun on stage…
I’m not a music critique, but I can see when a band makes a place move and jump! Glad my friends made me discover them!
Right now I am running on maybe four to five hours sleep a night… for weeks now… It’s incredible…
