The festival season is starting, and Buenos Aires has Quilmes Rock, a three-day festival that is held since a couple of years in November, and named after Argentina’s main brewery.

This year, the Saturday was reserved for Blur. In line with my travel policy to say yes to (nearly) everything, I got a ticket when my new friend Matias told me about it. I met up with him and some friends to go to the festival grounds, the Parque de Ciudad de Buenos Aires, a huge space in the south of the city, and a former amusement park that now hosts the Ciudad del Rock.

The roller coaster is still standing with some trees growing around and inside of it, some tentacled spinning joyride and other amusement relics give the area a weird feeling, especially in the night, with the lights from the stage….

Thank god the guys took me by car, I would never have found my way out there on my own. It was huge. A massive traffic jam, due to the huge crowd arriving by car.

The other boys had VIP tickets, being huge Blur fans, while Mathias and I were heading for the main area… if his ticket had not been copied and was invalid, even though he bought it at an official ticket seller… It took a bit of time, but shortly before start he found a cheaper ticket and made his way in.

Blur was great. I didn’t really now them, only a few songs from the radio, but was surprised how much of the setlist was actually familiar to me. And even the songs that I did not know were fun to watch.

The boys visibly had fun on stage, with Damon Albarn walking into the crowd a couple of times and making an Argentinean girl very lucky by getting her on stage to sing along ….

My boys later took me home to the city and we went of a great pizza in what they told me was areal Porteño place: Güerrin, a multi-level pizzeria that was packed at 1. a.m.

Well, it’s saturday night and the Porteños are just starting their dinner…. Pizzas were huge, greasy and delicious. Definitely worth a second visit!
