As any frequent or excessive traveller, you just get used to the airport codes, at least for the cities you often travel to.
Some are pretty obvious, like BRU, ZRH or SFO.
But what about the more ominous acronyms, like SUX, SEX, BED, EAT, FAR and FAT?
Lynn Fischer and Nick Crohn, who are running the great airportcod.es website, are solving the mystery. I just had to share it.
They tell you about the ominous Y’s in Canadian airports, or how the weird code actually hints at some historic airfield or local point of interest.
By the way, if you wondered, my itinerary spells out as:
ZRH/FRA/LIS/GIG/GRU/EZE/SCL/YYZ/LAX/SFO/AKL/SYD/MEL/HBA/SYD/MEL/AKL/ZQN/AKL/NRT/ZRH/IST/TLV/IST/ZRH/YUL/YVR/SEA/SFO/MEX/ORD/HKG/BKK/BOM/VNS/AGR/HJR/DEL/BOM/JNB/CPT/JNB/DBX/PER/ADL/MEL/SYD/SCL/EZE/FRA/BRU
Got it?
How many do you recognize?
