I start to develop my daily routines here.
I found a couple of cafés close by, either SofaCafé or Santos Sabores, where I start my day with breakfast – mostly the standard Café con leche, sumo de naranja y tres medialunas con manteca.
There, I do my emails, surf a bit, read the news, sort pictures and blog and think about what to do with the day…
I really have to plan the next steps though, the trip to Mendoza or Montevideo, and the next big city, Santiago, and possibly a trip to the Easter Islands. Today I finally started browsing for places to stay.
I guess this means that
a) I don’t really want to leave Buenos Aires – or think about that already and
b) I am really happy that I have taken more time and chosen this way of traveling so slowly and concentrating on a few places, not try to backpack through the country.
Backpacking must be great but I think I would be worn out after a month already. As much as I might be a vagabond, I like to have my place and my ‘home’ even if only temporary…. It gives me a kind of stability in all the change.
I’m kind of hesitant to plan and book it all in advance, though prices of flights won’t go down – and I saw the Easter Island one is particularly expensive…. But for that one I guess I’d try to find an organized tour or something….
Anyway, in between the routines I have started to explore the city a bit more, with the trip through Palermo, and going out a bit. Today I will go to the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.
I do eat out in restaurants from time to time, but I also like to cook at home, it’s cheaper and also quite fun.
Here’s the dinner from last night, Arroz primavera con huevos pericos, a Colombian recipe prepared by my friend Hector.

Hey Christian,
I’ve been catching up on your blog… fun reading about everything you’ve been up to! Makes me want to quit my job and travel 😉
If you have any general questions on Santiago as you’re planning, let me know. I lived on the coast in Chile when I was there, but I did travel in Santiago a bit, and more or less know the main parts of the city.
