Last night, Rajiv and I went to the Victoria Night Market. We had no idea what expected us.
Only the part under the metal roof construction was open, but that was more than enough. One part housed a number of little craft stands… printed t-shirts, wood toys, old books, dresses, jewelry… one really cool place sold suitcase loudspeakers… a really clever way to recycle old suitcases and bags…
Then there was the food row…. It was a world tour on its own. Nepalese, Indian, Sri lankan, American, Australian, Argentinean, Polish, Latin American, Caribbean, African, Spanish, Korean, Afghan, Malayan, Thai… I’m sure I forgot some…
The place was buzzing. So crowded and busy. They had musicians in different corners, shows, bars… people were queueing up for all the food… and then just sitting down at the tables or outside in the street in front of the market to eat and drink.
We had so much food…. is as a night food frenzy! I tried some Nepalese veggie Momo dumplings first, then went on to a spicy Dosa, had some beers, then got some vegetarian Polish pierogi… rounded it off with ice cream – salted caramel – and took home some Macaroons.
And we saw some much more food, but how much can you eat…? I might head back there next week. Note to self: come hungry, but afloat with cash. It ain’t cheap, you have to say, and you don’t want to queue up at the ATMs for half an hour…
