Old town

I feel like we did it all in one day.

We walked through Beyoglu and down to a little local fish market, where they sold fresh catch, sometime still alive and wriggling… Sabine had a spicy fish sandwich, and the birds enjoyed a snack, too.

Over the bridge, and after the last drops of rain, we walked through the spice market and the New Mosque, and, after some coffee and Turkish sweets, over to Hagia Sofia.

It is an impressive building, and I can’t believe that this dome stands like this for nearly 1500 years. Though parts of the inside were hidden by massive scaffolding, it was an impressive sight, especially the ancient mosaics.

The stray cats enjoyed it too, warming themselves at the big spotlights.

From there, over to the Blue Mosque: shoes off for both, scarf on for Sabine, and in we went with Japanese tourists that had a guide, pretending to be part of their group.

We decided to walk home, which definitely killed our feet, and arrived in time for sunset over the Golden Horn at Galata Bridge.

By now, the bridge railing was lined with men fishing, and actually catching quite a lot.

Again, the birds had a feast, but we felt like in the Hitchcock movie.

Up through the Tünnel on the old funicular and we finally sat down for dinner… Back home, we sorted our 500 pictures of the day, while I was bemoaning my feet… I already need a break.

Sabine though is busy reading the guide books to plan the next day….
