Out of time

After one final, ultra hot day – spent at the pool, but in the shade – with temperatures reaching an amazing 44 degrees, the evening has brought the long awaited cooling down. Within an hour, temperatures dropped by 15 degrees as predicted.

I was expecting something more drastic, it sounded so dramatic – but temperatures in the high twenties were still enough to make us sweat. I went to a bar with back patio to have some beers and cool down further.

Today, a real slow day, but sporty. I got up, not too early, swam ten laps at the pool in the morning, had breakfast, did some further travel research and then rode my bike around town.

I came close to the Australian Open that are currently ongoing. I’ll have to get a day pass and stroll around next week. There’s public viewing area at Federation Square with hundreds of people watching the main match of the day and cheering for the Aussie players.

Finally I was at my destination: ACMI, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, that runs an exhibition on pop music videos. In my slow rhythm of days, and being out of a regular day job for three and a half months, I arrived there innocently at 16.49. The exhibition closes at 17.00.

Ok, that might be a bit early for the summer, but it made me realize how out of it I have become by now.

I mostly live without any look at the clock. I message friends during the day, asking what they do and they answer: “I’m at work” – with an imaginary duh! as an afterthought.

Yeah, right. Work. I forgot about that. I have no idea how I fitted an eight-hour work day into my life… And I’m only at the start of this trip.
