Friday was a hot and lazy day, I went to the supermarket, went to the pool, slept a bit in the afternoon… The I met up with Ignacio, a mexican IT network specialist, for an after-work beer.
We headed to one of those little canteens that seem typical for Chile, with most guests sitting at the square bar and the kitchen is actually in the middle of it, having beer and eating various forms of Hamburgers, hot dogs or empanadas.
I had had a late lunch, so I only got a Chilean blond chop, but I think I’ll go back to try one of their hamburgs that replace the meat with a big chunk of melted cheese.
Later that night, Ignacio had plans to go to the video premiere of a friend of his newest clip, in some kind of bar, and invited me to come along.
So I was looking for a bar and practically walked past that gallery with a hipster crowd lingering outside… Mil M2, a community centre and gallery just a couple of blocks from my place.
Inside, an art exhibition, with paintings and various installations, free red wine, some sushi and a bar for the harder drinks. I had my first Pisco, a national drink, mixed in that case with Coke. In the back they were getting ready for the video premiere and the live show.
The name of the singer is Jim Hast, a young guy with his band. His show was not bad at all, his music a kind of experimental electro. The clip he presented for the song ‘Bridges to you’ was a beautifully shot in black-and-white. It featured a bunch of half-naked Chileans in a stadium and abandoned factory, slightly inspired by Kylie’s ‘All the lovers’ clip.
After that, a couple of live songs and then a DJ took over the crowd.
I had initially planned to go out for a beer in Bellavista, but then this came along. I’m glad I went, I would never have found this space or this singer on my own… Don’t make too many plans, just go along with the ride.
