I wanted to take a bike ride over to West Seattle and Alki beach for the whole month, but it was one of these places that got postponed and postponed… until the moment you realize it’s today or never.
The weather though was rainy and grey, so it would not be a big bike ride. But I wanted to take the water taxi over to the other side, if only to take a boat ride and see the Seattle Skyline.
Seattle is a city on the water, with its lakes and Puget sound, but somehow, with me mostly living my Seattle live on Capitol Hill and surroundings, I have hardly taken advantage of the Sound.
So I took the water taxi over to West Seattle, and for the first time really smelled the sea. That moist smell of salt water, mist and sea weed that just tell all your senses: ocean: wide, endless water.
Even though the view is restricted by the adjacent Olympic Mountain range, and the real ocean only begins many many miles out, I had this ocean feeling for the first time here in Seattle.
The view over to downtown Seattle is fantastic, even with a grey, cloudy sky like today. I would love to come over here at night and take shots of the city lit up.
As the weather wasn’t too good, and I had a night of concerts and bar hopping ahead of me, I returned rather quickly without exploring West Seattle much. I’ll put it on the list for next time, when I return.
