Homecoming

First full day in Cape Town. I managed to get my SIM cards, I got the local public transport card, had breakfast in Manhattan Café (already my hot spot, as I write this I have been there four times!), and went to the supermarket.

I love having an apartment again and a kitchen. A place to make coffee, have some yoghurts in the fridge, and an oven to cook on (butternut squash risotto that was…), a couch to crash on and read, a place for my laptop, a wardrobe to put my stuff in and not live out of the suitcase.

It feels like being home. This is what I intend to do, when I travel on this trip, creating a little home, even if only for the four weeks that I have.

India was too ‘touristy’, too ‘unstable’ with the constant moving. It prevented me from connecting really to a place.

That connection is it what makes me feel able to do this trip, for a period as long as 18 months.

So after I got all the usual stuff out of the way, I hopped on a bus to Clifton 3rd beach, and got a sun chair and an umbrella, and read my new book: The Art of Asking, by Amanda Palmer, the fabulous singer, songwriter, performer, couch surfer and now, author.

I put a foot into the water. Its fucking freezing like an water  ice bucket…. I mean it’s not just cold. It’s freezing to the point it hurts! But it’s beautiful, blue, the sea mist tickling my nose.

I stayed there till sundown.

I so need to connect to a place and come down. This is it. I sure will visit things.. Table mountain, Robben Island, the wine country, museums….

But looking back at the blog, and checking what I did for example a year ago in Buenos Aires or Santiago, I realize my days have been much more ‘normal’. Not constantly filled with visits, tours, walks etc, but just normal life.

I need to get back to this.
