Indian Pride

I heard from a friend that Delhi would hold its annual pride march on November 30th.

Of course Mallory and I had to try to find it, and we did, after a little odyssey through the center of Delhi.

We missed the march itself – due to our prolonged Thali lunch, but then saw a little bit of the speeches and cheers in a nearby park.

India’s LGBTQ groups have a tough time. A few years back, a lower court had declared a law criminalizing gays and lesbians in the Indian penal code, stemming from the British, to be unconstitutional.

The Indian Supreme Court though ruled last year that the law was valid and, if to be changed, would have to be changed by a vote in Parliament, not by a court.

So far, so bad, as this is unlikely to happen. Simply not a priority.

So this march was the first since that Supreme Court ruling, but still, the numbers are growing.

The Hindustan times reported that this year there were more protesters as in previous years. Among them, us, a little bit too late, but nonetheless showing face, for progress, and love.
