Longest day ever

I boarded Qantas flight QF17 shortly past noon on January 15th 2015, and our 747 took off around 1.30.

The flight was relatively smooth, no real turbulence. Thank god, as it was basically 99% over water – the longest commercial flight over water in the world, actually.

We flew nearly twelve hours straight, and landed shortly past 11.30 in the morning – on January 15th 2015, the same day!

I flew backwards over the international date line, and I understand the concept – but it’s still just too funny. This is undoubtedly going to be the longest day of my life.

A quick taxi brought me into the city centre where my airbnb host Alicia was waiting, I found a really great place.

A quick walk to the supermarket for the basics, then a nap, and then I was off for a re-union with Sebastián, for beers and long chats.

Not too long though, I feel this is going to be one of the worst jetlags of this journey. So I try to push it as far as I can.

10pm now, I’m up for 29 hours straight.
