MCQP is the biggest party in Cape Town. It stands for Mother City Queer Project, and is THE event of the LGBT community.
We had no idea what to expect and just bought tickets some weeks ago.
In the last moment we learned that it’s actually a costume party. This year’s motto: Royal Navy. Come as a sailor, or as royalty, or anything vaguely linked.
We tried to find a costume, but the party shops had already been raided, so all we got was a sailor’s cap and a captain’s hat.
Fair enough, neither Sven or me are big into dressing up. But at least we showed a bit of good will.
The venue was nothing less than Cape Town’s City Hall! Talk about exclusivity! It was massive.
Several dance floors and bars on different levels, a maze of corridors, statues, reception halls, packed with people. I wonder if they have to renovate after this.
We were there with my friend Branden, but also ran into a few other friends, like Carlo, who had done our hair earlier…
It was epic. We had VIP tickets which included free drinks, and we danced through the night on the different floors, till about 3 am.
We spent the next day recovering. Sleeping in, having breakfast at noon, then sleeping at Clifton beach among all the other party zombies.
