Operation Desert camp

Saturday evening I had a conference call over Skype with the guys from my camp at Burning Man.

Over two hours they explained everything to me and a few other ‘virgins’ as they call the newbies…

The guys are veterans, they have participated in Burning Man several times and know what do do, what to bring…

They sent over huge excel sheets with check lists, prioritized items to buy, vital to have/good to have… what not to bring…

It’s great to be able to join them in their camp – I would not be able to organize this all on my own, especially while being on my trip… the thing is that you have to bring everything you need, and some more stuff, to trade in. You cannot buy anything – the next store would be hours away.

We’ll have tents, shade structures, showers, and build a tropical tree house, consisting of two tree structures, crow nests and a hanging bridge in between them… It’s hard to imagine so here’s a little clip from a previous year…

I am so excited. Still, once I hit San Francisco, I’ll need a few days of preparation time, buying stuff for me and the camp, a little tent, googles for the dust storms over the playa, organize a bike….

Maybe think a bit about a costume, even though I think for the first time there I just want to soak it all in, be there, hang out and give a hand to my camp wherever I can.

And here are some amazing photos of Brandon from last year on flickr.
