Seattle was pricey. I already realized that during my airbnb hunt.
And Capitol Hill especially was expensive.
I could have paid 25$ a night for a sleeping bag (though I am not sure if that was a joke, but there were three on offer…)
So accommodation was a big part and would gobble up more than half of the (newly reduced) monthly budget. Less to spend during the month then. Which did not work out that well, either.
So here are the numbers for Seattle, including the little side trip to Vancouver.
1220 € accommodation
675 € eating out & drinks
175 € supermarkets
170 € cultural activities, entry fees, etc…
140 € transport, bikes, etc…
110 € other expenses (phone, etc…)
So all in all I spent 2490 € for the month in Seattle. That would have been fine with my old budget calculation for the 15-month trip. But, as I try to bring cost down in every city in order to go on for 18 months, I am a full 540 € over budget. That hurts.
On top of that come 220 € for the rental car for a week, plus 45 € for gas, and another 20 for the luggage fee to San Francisco. All in all 290 €, in itinerary costs.
In total, Seattle was too expensive. As Montreal was cheaper than expected, this is not as bad as it looks, but I cannot go on spending like this.
