I’ve spent 21 days in Santiago. As usual, accommodation comes in first. But I also paid the side trip to Valparaíso and paid double for those days.
Santiago was a bit more expensive than expected, for going out, especially. And I ate out more, I did not use my kitchen as often as in Buenos Aires.
Chile uses new polymer bills. They’re nice to use, and hold longer. But I had trouble adjusting to the value of the Peso.
Everything seems so expensive with all those zeros, but actually isn’t…. In the end it’s easy to handle.
Most prices are rounded to full hundreds, or maybe tenths. So the coins do exist, but are not of much use… They even still have a tiny cute little 1 Peso coin… at a value of 0,00138685071 Euro as of today.
So here’s the overview for Santiago:
1280 € Accommodation
490 € Restaurants & Bars
115 € Other (Hairdresser, Phone…)
90 € Supermarkets
70 € Transport
30 € Culture
In total, 2075 € that I spent during this time, which is just in budget. However, I also bought a few other things like new trousers, some gifts, downloaded a few things on iTunes, got a new Hard drive to backup photos, that I have to add to this….
Still, so far the budget seems to be under control.
