Living next to the pool is real great. I swam 10 laps on Friday and even 15 on Saturday.
It was a bit overcast first, so the pool was empty and only the swimmers were there, I had a whole lap to myself. When did that happen last time…?
Then I explored Fitzroy for a bit. I love this area. It’s basically happening on Brunswick Street or Smith Street, that are lined with bars, shops, restaurants…
Even if I stay in Fitzroy, and try one restaurant every day I would need months to try them all.
Then there are the furniture shops. I am already designing my future apartment, I could buy all the stuff here.
The side streets and back alleys also house a number of practically invisible shops and bars, or little art markets and fairs, sometimes the best places of all, installed into some weird abandoned space, looking somewhat improvised.
The side streets are more quiet, mostly residential. They’re lined with streets, and graffiti. Again I could wander days without end just taking photos of the street art.
It might be an early judgement, but Melbourne seems to be the coolest place I have visited so far. It’s a very livable city. Down to earth, friendly, relaxed.
I usually end my day with beers in one bar or the other. The only problem is that I seem to spend much more money than I thought. Beers and alcohol in general can be expensive, a pint for 10$…. it adds up in the course of an evening.
I will have to bring my daily spending down, otherwise I’ll be broke soon. And I need to start planning on the side trips, back to Sydney, maybe Brisbane? Maybe Tasmania?
