Back to normal

Melbourne FlagThe last two weeks have been pretty intense.

Leaving Santiago, flying to San Francisco, meeting my friends there, flying south again, meeting Sven, Kevin and Rajiv, New Year’s Eve, then flying to Melbourne, exploring, meeting new people here…

I hardly had any time to breathe or think about all that happened.

Melbourne Coat of ArmsNow the boys have left town, and on the first day I felt totally cut off. I have been traveling for three months without many moments of loneliness.

I had some, mostly on weekends or when I had no one to go out with, but all in all it has been much easier than expected, or feared.

But you get used so fast to the company, that being alone felt tough at first. Plus, I am in a new city, so I have no routines yet, that I tend to develop within the first two weeks, then I’m on my rails…

Still, I managed to be busy. Thursday night I walked through Fitzroy and had a couple of cheap beers in Sircuit (2$ a glass, deal!!).

Fitzroy poolFriday I first went swimming in the pool (500m) and then took the tram over to Port Melbourne to go to the beach proper. It was super hot so that just seemed the thing to do.

In the evening I met with Michael for a beer in Chinatown, first at Berlin Bar, a cool theme bar – we were in the east part, but having Bavarian beer – then on to ShanDong MaMa for dinner, where we picked up Colin.

On to New Gold Mountain, a cool Chinese bar tinted in red, and further on to Hihou, a Japanese place with exotic drinks.

I walked home and stopped for another beer at Sircuit. Can’t really complain. Midsumma festival is about to start this Sunday, so I’ll be super busy with cultural activities….
