Heatwave

It’s been announced for several days, and now the heatwave that has torched Perth and Adelaide has arrived in Victoria.

Yesterday the temperature in Melbourne hit 34 degrees, but it’s a dry heat and you could actually bear it. I spent time at the pool again, doing only a couple of laps, because it was so busy… mostly just simmering in the water.

The water however is not really cooling you off that much, so sometimes I just hit the cold showers.

The night was surprisingly pleasant, even though it didn’t drop much below 25. Kate has installed that huge air fan in my room, for cooling, and our house generally seems to be cool and shielding us from the heat.

Weather MelbourneIn the morning, with the temperature already reaching 36 degrees at 11 am, it’s like opening a pizza oven when you open the front door. It’s supposed to climb to 41, the TV predicts 43! Record heat for me.

But we’re ready. The water provisions have been cooling overnight. I thought about going to the beach – but there’s no shadow there, and getting there would be a nightmare….

Alternatively, an air-conditioned museum might do it, but I really can’t go further than to the next block, aka the pool.
